State Puppet Theatre - Plovdiv

The current Third Season is under the motto "Being different is great!" and includes dramatizations of "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes and "The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Andersen. Both works instill the idea of the preciousness of every being and their place among others. To be different is to be unique. This is what makes a person unique and makes them a person. And schools have a special role to play in integrating every child into society. This is one of the highlights of Kevin Henkes' Chrysanthemum.

Since its inception, the theatre troupe at Dusho Hadzhidekov Primary School has worked in partnership with the National High School for Performing and Screen Arts, where it received as a gift a valuable collection of theatre puppets made by teacher Virzhinya Petkova-Davcheva and her pupils. Every year the young artists visit the workshops of the school and learn about some of the secrets of the art of theatre. They attend rehearsals and performances of their older friends, and with the help of Zoya Kapon and Sonya Boteva they master some techniques of stage behavior.

In the current Third Season the troupe has expanded its activities. A new goal is involvement in charity initiatives, which has led to the need for a larger stage and hall, providing the opportunity for more audience. This time a friendly hand was given by the State Puppet Theatre Plovdiv, with which the troupe has also worked closely since its inception. So the little actors are not only spectators of the amazing performances of the theatre, but for the first time they will get on its stage.

The project is supported financially by the Plovdiv Municipality, which provided funds for the use of the hall, as well as for the sewing of the costumes. This gives a new look and gives an incredible emotional charge to the troupe members and their leaders.

Everyone is in feverish preparation for the charity performance, which will be on 28.06. at 18.30 at the State Puppet Theatre, and for its promotion a poster with illustrations to the fairy tales made by the children was prepared. The kids are not only rehearsing hard but are also involved in making sets and masks. This year the young artists Stefan and Hristo Chonov helped to make the sets.

The funds raised will be given to children and young people with disabilities by the association "Parallel World", which since this year the theatre troupe supports through participation in various initiatives.
