Cuneiform
Exhibition "Clinopis"
From 06.09.23 to 06.01.24
Regional Archaeological Museum - Plovdiv
On the eve of September 6, the official holiday of our city, we will present you a very unusual, but very interesting exhibition. It represents the first of a new format of exhibitions for the museum, in which a single object is presented to visitors. In this way, the focus falls on the artefact itself, and its significance can be presented in details that usually remain hidden from the public.
In the temporary exhibition "cuneiform", visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with an unusual object, part of the museum's collection - a Sumerian cuneiform tablet. It came to the archaeological museum in Plovdiv at the beginning of the 20th century, but will be presented to the public for the first time in the upcoming exhibition.
The cuneiform characters covering the surface of the tile have been deciphered by Dr. Strahil Panayotov from the Institute of Historical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. But how old are these signs? Where did the tile come from? What is written on it? Visitors will be able to discover the answers to these questions for themselves in the exhibition.
