Legend, rumor, or fate connects Salieri's name with Mozart's. In Petrinel Gochev's performance, the emphasis is on Salieri and the experience of music as a way of communicating and praising God. The divine gift of creating musical masterpieces (Mozart) on the one hand, and on the other the ability to hear and understand the language of music, as few can (Salieri) merge in an insurmountable struggle between rapture, intoxication, joy, envy and bitterness.
Clad in white, the scene allows the contrasts in Salieri's feelings, thoughts, and actions to stand out and shine through a colorful spectrum of human experience. Dimo Sava Dimov fills the stage space with vast variations of the images and characters that emerge from Salieri's memories and in his last hours excite the mind in attempts to take stock.
Quiet and stormy scenes with painful intimacy or outright hypocrisy, silence and sound, harmony and dissonance flow on the stage with finesse.
In the performance, thanks to the live performances of Ines Simeonova, excerpts from musical works of the biggest names in music from the 18th and 19th centuries - Mozart, Salieri, Handel, J.S. Bach and Chopin - are elegantly interwoven.
