On October 14, 2023 (Saturday) from 18:00 in the Hristo G. Danov house museum the book "Dazzled and frightening: foreign women and men in Bulgarian literature from the long XIX century" will be presented by Nikolay Aretov.
This book takes up the large theme of family life and the intimate experiences of people in the early modern era and examines various aspects of it. Attention is directed to the norms that determine the relations between the sexes and the changes of mentalities and morals are connected with them. The links with basic elements of the national mythology were sought, first of all the presented links with "foreigners" in the ethnic, religious and sense of women, and other men. Attempts are made through comparisons with the commentary phenomena that are added in a wider context, both international and regarding marriage and sexual relations between "own". Attracted with observations and tools from other fields of humanities and social sciences and in this sense the work is interdisciplinary. Observations focus primarily on literary works and journalism from the era of the National Revival, as well as on memoirs, letters and other documents.
