Paloma - Miroslava Katsarova concert
Miroslava Katsarova with a new concert program dedicated to music from black and white films
In the last ten years, the jazz singer Miroslava Katsarova creates a new concert program every year, which is distinguished by specific musical material, new sonority, strong, clever arrangements, told stories. Paloma, as the new concert series is titled, comes after Singin'n'Swingin', Desafinado, April In Paris, Cinema, Blue Moon Songs Of Billie Holiday, The New Standards, Electronic Dreams, Bluetronic and "Like a Picture of Chagall". Paloma, just like the old Mexican song. One of Mira Katsarova's favorite versions of this song is by Caetano Veloso. A particularly important highlight in this kind of musical, as well as film narrative, which is coming up in Plovdiv and Sofia, will be the reworking of the familiar old Latin songs. The orchestrations for the string quartet are unconventional in tune with the typically jazz reharmonization, strongly emphasized by the classic jazz trio: piano, bass, drums.
With these new arrangements by pianist Miroslav Turiyski, we will send off the old and welcome the new year on December 28 at 9:00 p.m. at Bee Bop Cafe, Plovdiv (tickets on the spot with advance reservation) and on January 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Sofia City Art Gallery (tickets on Eventim).
"Quiet and sweet nostalgia for the black and white films of the 20th century, for their soundtrack and aesthetics, for their naive but authentic moods - this is the focus of our new concert program. I have carefully and lovingly chosen musical themes that express me and fit my ideal of a song: a melodic, beautiful line, with lyrics perfectly woven into it. In the program I have selected songs with subtle references to the magical realism of Latin American culture such as Cucurucucu Paloma, Samba de Bencao, Manha de Carnaval (Black Orpheus), Desafinado, Amapola, Mas Que Nada, Dindi and many others, most of them related to movies. Miro Turiyski has transformed the old musical material and remade the themes in it so that it sounds modernistic, but also nostalgic and with respect to the original," says Miroslava Katsarova.
Miroslav Turiyski (piano), Mladen Dimitrov (drums), Alexander Lekov (bass) and the Perfect string quartet - Ivelina Hristova and Dilyana Davidova (violins), Maria Venkova (viola) and Antoanina Yurgandzhieva (cello) will also be on stage with her.
With these concerts, Miroslava Katsarova celebrates another anniversary - the 22nd birthday of her show on Jazz FM Radio - Desafinado.
The two concerts are supported by the Ministry of Culture.
