WWF Bulgaria and the Society of Animalists, Florists and Scientific Illustrators join forces in this exhibition to present the key conditions for successful afforestation and the forest treasures we need to preserve.
You are welcome to see it one more time in Regional Natural History Museum Plovdiv.
Healthy forests are extremely important for the well-being of people and nature. Besides being a home for wild animals, they provide us with oxygen, drinking water, raw materials, flood protection, and they mitigate climate change by carbon sequestration. However, prolonged droughts, heat waves, fires and strong storms caused by the changing climate, as well as illegal logging and other human activities, are a major threat to them.
It is clear that it is crucial for us humans to urgently join forces in the protection of forests. For many of us, this often means one thing – reforestation! However, for this to be actually helpful for nature, certain requirements should be met. Creating new forests is a far more complex and long process than we imagine. It neither begins nor ends with placing a sapling in the soil.
The South-Western State Enterprise and WWF Bulgaria work in partnership for the restoration of climate-resilient forests in protected areas, part of Natura 2000. Within the LIFE Reforest project, nearly 1 million saplings will be planted!
In this exhibition you can see illustrations of forest habitats and their representatives from different artists: Ana Sokerova, Anelia Pashova, Asen Ignatov, George Pchelarov, Denitsa Peneva, Dina Rogatnich, Erik Daniel, Snezhina Popova, Iliya Boyarov.
