"Genko Genkov. "Beyond the visible" is visiting the City Art Gallery - Plovdiv

And the Plovdiv public will be able to see the large retrospective exhibition of the significant Bulgarian painter Genko Genkov (1923 – 2006). The exposition was prepared on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth by the Sofia City Art Gallery and was shown with great success in its space. Among the creators of "Genko Genkov. Beyond the visible. 100th anniversary of the artist's birth" are Adelina Fileva, Krasimir Iliev, Natasha Noeva, Ana Topalova (assistant curator). The team of the City Art Gallery - Plovdiv did everything possible for the exhibition to be a guest here as well. Its opening will be on February 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Exhibition Hall "2019".

The exhibition contains a large number of works by the painter, painted in the period from 1949 to 2005. He created a huge amount of oil paintings on canvas and phaser, and works on paper, in which he perfected his watercolor technique, supplemented with gouache, pastel, printing inks and pigments, with different approaches and techniques, to give contrast and strength to color. He experimented with graphics and rarely with sculpture, but oil painting remained his main artistic goal. His painting from the early years constantly evolved and changed in color, forms and strength. Genko Genkov painted very few still lifes, nude bodies, portraits of his loved ones, as well as of individuals who impressed him. He often looks into himself over the years to leave us with various self-portraits. There are countless landscapes in his work that are not so much realistic as visionary - sometimes firmly constructed, other times fiercely expressive, and not infrequently melancholic, created with the most recognizable fiery palette and delicate color combinations.

The present exhibition includes works from the funds of a number of state, municipal and private collections from all over the country. City Art Gallery - Plovdiv participated with three impressive paintings from its painting fund.
