On February 10, 2024 at 6 p.m., the opening and presentation of the exhibition will take place in the lobby of the museum. Entrance is free!
The exhibition is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Vaska Popova-Balareva (1902-1979). She is known for her mastery as a painter and portraitist. She was established among women artists even at the time when she was creating, but has also gained new popularity in the last few years in connection with current topics about the place of women in various spheres.
The exhibition presents selected works - paintings, still lifes, decorative and applied projects, sketches, copies, prints and decorated leather works - bags, belts, albums, book covers, etc.
The exhibition catalog will also be presented at the opening, with a foreword by Vaska Balareva's son, Prof. Hristo Balarev, and texts by art critics Assoc. Ph.D. Violeta Vasilchina and Hristina Grozdanova, which will soon be available as an e-book on the website of Regional History Museum - Sofia. At the beginning of the last century, in the art of Vaska Popova-Balareva, floral and zoomorphic motifs are intertwined with Christian traditions and Bulgarian folk art, and today her rich gardens and colorful birds are presented in the most visited museum in Bulgaria!
