For the 28th time, Plovdiv will host the International Folklore Festival - one of the most beautiful and anticipated cultural events, enjoyed by a loyal audience of all ages, filled with much emotion and enthusiasm. Every year, the folklore festival turns into a real celebration for the audience during the hot summer days. It features folklore dance groups from all over the world, presenting an unforgettable display of colors and rhythms with much beauty, talent, and joy. This always takes place at one of the most iconic locations in Plovdiv – the Ancient Theatre. The event is traditionally organized by the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the city's Cultural Calendar.
This year, the 28th edition of the International Folklore Festival will be held from July 29 to August 2, where we will enjoy performances by representative folklore groups from Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Hungary, Serbia, and Georgia. The Bulgarian participants include the Representative Ensemble "Maritsa" from "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" Secondary School - Plovdiv, the Representative Ensemble "Vojvodintsi" from "Videlina-1928" Community Center in Vojvodinovo, and of course, the Folklore Ensemble "Trakia" – Plovdiv.
Every evening at 5:30 PM, the dance troupes will parade from "Dom Levski," passing through the Main Street and reaching the open stage at "Stefan Stambolov" Square, where there will be short concerts starting at 6:00 PM. The program continues with the official evening performances of the participants on the stage of the Ancient Theatre, starting each evening at 8:00 PM. In addition to the concerts in Plovdiv, there will also be performances in other regions of the province.
The official opening ceremony of the 28th International Folklore Festival is on July 29, Monday, at 8:00 PM at the Ancient Theatre. On the same stage on the last night – August 2, Friday, at 8:00 PM, there will be a Gala Concert and the official closing ceremony of the event.
All concerts are FREE, except for the concert on August 1, which requires tickets! On that day, the incredible Georgian State Ensemble for Songs and Dances "Mkhedruli" will perform a solo concert, delighting the Bulgarian audience with their summer tour in the country with one of their top spectacles, "Spirit of Georgia."
"The 'Spirit of Georgia' show is one of the most successful musicals presented in Georgia. Georgian dances have no analog. It has been proven that one must be born Georgian to convey the full soul and sophistication of each movement. 'Spirit of Georgia' tells about the country, its history, its legends, the love for God, for the woman, for the mother, about how bitter it is to fight, and how bright and kind the world can be. The Bulgarian viewer will be captivated by the masterful intertwining of Caucasian plots, stunning costumes, fantastic lighting, and sound," said the organizers of the tour in Bulgaria, "Top Stars Events" Ltd. and the Association "Friends of Folklore." The concert in Plovdiv is supported by the Municipality of Plovdiv.
