The Natural History Museum in Plovdiv organizes an art studio to make "Mountain in a Jar"

Regional Museum of Natural History - Plovdiv organizes a Workshop for making "Mountain in a jar (closed ecosystem)". Around the world, this closed ecosystem is called by many names - terrarium, florarium, garden in a bottle. A beautifully designed florarium is a piece of natural beauty that requires simple steps and a lot of desire to make.

In fact, his first official name is “Wardian case" and dates back to 1829, bearing the name of its discoverer/inventor, a physicist by education, but with an interest in botany - Dr. Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward.

The Mountain in a Jar (closed ecosystem) making workshop is on 19 April 2024, Friday, 19.00 to 21.00 in the museum lobby and will start with a talk to inspire participants. After that, they will have the opportunity to create a closed mini-ecosystem on their own, which develops almost independently, without the need for additional watering or regular maintenance. Steaming of the vessel is completely normal, especially when the temperatures drop. The condensed water runs down the sides of the vessel and waters the plants.

"Mountain in a jar" is an innovative and nature-friendly closed system, which, apart from offering coziness and freshness in the home or office and replacing beautifully fast-fading flower bouquets, almost takes care of itself.

Soil (small pebbles), forest soil, selected lichens (moss) and moisture-loving plants will be used to make this closed ecosystem.

Taking part in the Mountain in a Jar (closed ecosystem) workshop, participants will create a piece of living mountain, which they can then let live in their home or office.
