Plovdiv Presents: The Balkan Orchestras
The newest project in the Cultural Calendar of the Municipality of Plovdiv "Plovdiv Presents: The Balkan Orchestras" will offer Plovdiv residents and guests of the city the opportunity to witness a unique "musical duel", in which four popular formations "Vivo" will join on one stage Montana", the orchestra of "Kristijan Azirovic" /Serbia/, "Big Band Blagoevgrad" and "Big Band Plovdiv".
The event is on May 30 and 31, the venue is the stage in front of the Plovdiv Municipality at 1 Stefan Stambolov Square, and the start time on both days is 6:30 p.m.
First, on May 30, 2024, the public will hear and see the musical performances of "Vivo Montana" and the special guests - the orchestra of "Kristijan Azirovic" /Serbia/. Since its creation until now, "Vivo Montana" have performed on numerous stages in our country and around the world. The lineup can boast of participation in many international tours in countries such as Italy, France, Spain, Turkey and Serbia. They participate in numerous cultural and anniversary events, in all kinds of private parties, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and others. They gave many concerts and celebrations in squares in municipalities all over Bulgaria. The orchestra of Kristijan Azirović - a virtuoso trumpeter who won the prestigious prize - Prva Truba Guće '13 - Best Guće Trumpet bears his name, and quite deservedly so. In 2013, in Guča, the small Serbian town that gave its name to the largest Balkan folklore festival for wind music, more than 160 musicians, who survived eliminations between almost 2,000 fans of trumpets and wind instruments, performed. All this happens in front of an audience that exceeds 600,000 people. It is in this exclusive competition that Kristian won the award for best trumpeter and best orchestra, several times, in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. All this ranks him alongside names like Goran Bregović and Boban Marković.
On the second festival day - May 31, "Big Band Blagoevgrad" with conductor Bobi Yanev and the favorite of all Plovdiv residents "Big Band Plovdiv" with conductor Nikolay Geshev will play on stage. "Big Band Blagoevgrad" was created in 1993 on the basis of the existing City Wind Orchestra at the community center "N. Vaptsarov", at the suggestion of conductor Boris Yanev. The orchestra starts playing big band repertoire, i.e. jazz music. The resulting repertoire began to include works (instrumental pieces and songs) in the style of swing, blues, funk, Latin, rock-jazz, pop hits, ballads, hits, etc. His permanent soloists are Hristina Katsarska and Marijana Kostova. The guest soloists of the Big Band are: Vasil Petrov, Stefka Onikyan, Kamelia Todorova, Margarita Hranova, Orlin Goranov, Yordanka Hristova, Yildiz Ibrahimova, Lyudmil Georgiev, Hilda Kazasyan, Rumyana Kotseva, Petar Salchev, Meri Taneva, Petko Manchev, Angel Zaberski- son., Vladimir Karparov, Venko Zahariev, Ventsislav Blagoev and others. "Big Band Blagoevgrad" has performed concerts in Blagoevgrad, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Varna, the "Golden Sands" resort, Pleven, Pernik, Kyustendil, Dupnitsa, Montana, Sandanski, Botevgrad, Lovech, Dimitrovgrad, Pazardzhik, etc. "Big Band Plovdiv" was created at the beginning of the year 2000. Made up entirely of professional musicians, the band quickly became one of the musical emblems of Plovdiv. The founder, leader and conductor of the orchestra is Nikolay Geshev. "Big Band "Plovdiv" has performed numerous concerts throughout the country. He is a participant in jazz festivals, a musical host of solemn ceremonies, an invariable participant in all significant national celebrations in Plovdiv and festive programs. The repertoire is extremely wide - from classic jazz to contemporary Latin and pop performances. The orchestra has implemented numerous projects with almost all prominent jazz and pop artists in Bulgaria.
Organizer of "Plovdiv Presents: The Balkan Orchestras" is "Jazz Formations Plovdiv" Association. The project is implemented with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the city's Cultural Calendar for 2024.
