The new large-scale festival "Summer in the Old Town" kicks off impressively on June 17 with two exciting events. The forum will take place over the three hot summer months, focusing the attention of Plovdiv residents and guests on the architectural and historical gem of Plovdiv.

"In the summer months, we will offer visitors a series of enjoyable events they can participate in – viewing exhibitions, listening to good music, joining dance entertainments, and taking tours of the Old Town's sights," say organizers Radoslav Chilingirov and Veneta Rainova from the agency "Antrakt."

The festival began with a tribute and love for the youngest – our children. Today, in the cool courtyard of the Ivan Chernozemski House at 10:30 am, there was a puppet theater performance by Petya Nedeva. "The Little Tooth" is a show where children can not only enjoy themselves but also participate and learn interesting things. Petya Nedeva is a graduate of the Christina Morfova Music School and NATFA "Krastyo Sarafov."

The opening day continues at 6:00 pm at the "St. Dimitar Solunski" Church, where a unique exhibition titled "From the Church Past of the Plovdiv Holy Metropolis" will be opened. The exhibition will feature church items from the treasury of the Plovdiv Metropolis. The exhibition will last for one month. Among the exhibits, we will see an Altar Cross with a stand, which belonged to His Eminence Metropolitan Maxim of Plovdiv (1906-1938), an episcopal crown from the late 18th - early 19th century, a chalice dated 1659, coinciding with the period when Metropolitan Gavriil of Philippopolis (1636-1673) served, an episcopal staff that belonged to Metropolitan Kiril of Philippopolis (1780-1808), and more. The opening ceremony will also be attended by Metropolitan Nikolay of Plovdiv, under whose blessing the event is being realized.

By the end of August, the festival's program will offer concerts, Latin dance workshops, tours of the Old Town, quizzes, stand-up comedy, and a workshop on antique weapons. In July and August, two more exciting exhibitions will be opened.

On July 29 at 11:00 am in the Vaulted Hall of the Balabanov House, the exhibition "With Works by Asen (1908-1973) and Iliya (1911-1988) Peykov" will be opened. On August 3 at 6:00 pm in the Deep Hall of the Balabanov House, an exhibition of works by Goshka Datsov (1884-1917) will be opened.

All events within the three-month program are free to attend, and prior registration is required for the Old Town tours. The "Summer in the Old Town" festival is organized by the "Antrakt" agency with the financial support of the Municipality of Plovdiv. The forum is part of Plovdiv's Cultural Calendar for 2024.
