One Dance Festival is now 18 years old. We welcome this special edition with both dreams and responsibility. That is exactly what the program is about. It is saturated with themes of maturity – personal and civic. Dance weaves longing into the serious, unity into the urgent, striving for the better, whose time has come. Revolution as a contagious urge to be together. Protest as shared energy, spontaneous celebration, and creative act. The structures of power as weeds in the spaces of freedom and the body as a counterweight.
We will witness how the individual and the collective connect with history, at its intersections of progress and destruction, entertainment and propaganda. We will journey from our city to tribal huts and tree clearings in the African jungle, from the present to Byzantine women’s poetry, from digital noise to ancient hymns. We will reflect on Bulgarian identity in emigration and on returning home, between truth and humor. This is a collection of bold performances by leading international choreographers and Bulgarian talents, including 2 premieres and 6 co-productions. Edition No. 18 focuses on Belgium, in a selection that is a gift of causes and visions, inviting us once again to move forward.
