Films with successes from the festivals in Cannes, Berlin and Venice, new titles by world-famous directors such as Fatih Akin and David Mackenzie, as well as films starring Jeremy Irons, Paul Mescal, Bradley Cooper, Olga Kurylenko and many other stars, will be presented at the 21st edition of the Sofia Film Fest in Plovdiv. Two titles with Bulgarian participation, which have successfully passed through the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival, are among the important films at the festival. These are “Nina Rosa” starring Galin Stoev, which won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay, and “Lust” by Ralitsa Petrova, also presented in the German capital. In addition, we will see the Iranian-French film “An Ordinary Incident,” awarded the Palme d’Or, as well as the Iraqi film “A President’s Cake,” which received the Audience Award.
Traditionally, guests will also arrive in Plovdiv – Ukrainian director Vitaly Mansky will present his new documentary “Iron,” which has free admission, and John-Paul Davidson will present his new comedy “The Three Urns.” The documentary program will also be valuable, including the music films “The Newport Folk Festival and the Great Folk Dream” about the legendary folk event from the 1960s, as well as “Bad English” about the iconic Marianne Faithfull. With the large-scale “Megadoc,” we immerse ourselves in the creative explorations of Francis Ford Coppola and his work on the grand and very personal project “Megalopolis,” featuring stars such as Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Adam Driver, and others.
The program also includes new productions by some of the world’s most beloved festival directors. Among them are “Do We Hear Each Other?” by Bradley Cooper, “Amrum Island” by Fatih Akin, and the action film “Explosion” by the British director David Mackenzie. The audience in Plovdiv will also be able to see Jeremy Irons in “Palestine 36,” Paul Mescal in “The History of Sound,” Olga Kurylenko in “The Three Urns,” as well as some classics from recent years such as “The Worst Person in the World” and “Perfect Days.”
The event is held with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the Cultural Calendar of the city.
