Matey Mateev is one of the artists who subjugates the exhibition space to his art. He manages to make us immerse ourselves in his world. And there, the main character is the artist himself – as a thinker with a glass in hand, as an admirer of beauty, as a fisherman with one or two fish (mostly in his mind). As the Man who enchants. In his work, he has a special connection to Plovdiv. His roots are in Kyustendil, but this sapling grows in Plovdiv and bears the mature fruits we see before us. Another theme in Matey’s work is the reverence for his teachers in art in the deepest sense of the word. It’s no coincidence that he has depicted himself in a collective painting with the two most important figures to him: Maestro and Zlatoyu Boyadzhiev. He walks in art, inspired by their ideas, captivated by the magic of this path.
