"The Addams Family" features music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. After numerous film and television adaptations, this is the first and only stage production based on the characters. It premiered on Broadway in 2010, winning several prestigious awards.
The director Peter Odazhiev prepares a good-natured parody of the dark comedy with a wink, based on the cartoon characters that are popular worldwide and carry their distinctive weight. The story of the musical places these famous characters in a new situation—grown-up Wednesday falls in love with a "normal" boy, and their spooky mansion experiences a nightmare. The creative team focuses on musical dramaturgy as the leading element, subjugating everything to it—actors, choreography, the flow of mapping, and the movement of the set.
