Chamber Scene Plovdiv 2025: Mehmet Polat Quartet
Chamber Scene Plovdiv 2025: Mehmet Polat Quartet, Concert
Sunday, July 6 at 8 p.m.
First Studio of Radio Plovdiv
Renowned oud player and composer Mehmet Polat brings together three exceptional international jazz musicians in his new quartet: Franz von Chossy on piano, Martin Hafizi on drums, and Daniel van Huffelen on double bass.
Together, through the expressive language of jazz, they explore a unique path that intertwines global musical traditions and trends, continuing Polat’s distinctive journey through intriguing musical crossovers.
The quartet’s compositions are born from deep contemplation, experimentation, emotion, and artistic curiosity. With references to various traditional roots, the music ventures beyond conventional time signatures into complex odd meters such as 5/4, 7/4, and 9/8—rhythms characteristic of many Eastern musical forms.
A solid rhythmic foundation from the bass and drums supports soaring, interwoven lines from the oud and piano. The individual potential of each artist leads to a fresh and personal musical perspective, multiplied into a truly original ensemble sound.
