The project is the result of a collaboration and creative chemistry between five virtuoso artists who present a new repertoire for quintet, marked by rich expressiveness and an innovative musical aesthetic. Legendary Bulgarian kaval player Theodosii Spassov, renowned for his exceptional talent and unique style, shares the stage with four internationally acclaimed musicians—guitarists Atanas Ourkouzounov, Georgi Vassilev, Dimitar Ivanov, and double bassist Irina-Kalina Gudeva.
The ensemble’s repertoire is deeply influenced by the captivating melodies, intricate rhythms, and rich cultural traditions of the Balkans, representing a fusion of three genres: classical, jazz, and folk. In the quintet’s music and performance, one can hear a harmonious blending of these styles—where the discipline and sophistication of classical form meet the freedom and improvisation of jazz, all profoundly inspired by the region’s centuries-old folk heritage.
Balkan Moods features works by prominent contemporary composers from Bulgaria and Serbia, where the virtuosity and artistic expression of the musicians take the listener on a unique and thrilling journey through the soundscapes of the Balkans, blending tradition with modernism.
Chamber Stage Plovdiv is held with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the city's Cultural Calendar for 2025.
