“Madam Minister” was written by Branislav Nušić in 1931 in the midst of the Great Depression. A context which, for various historical, cultural, and geopolitical reasons, the Balkans seem never able to escape. It’s always a crisis, there’s always scarcity, we’re always cheated and angry. At least we’re not ugly. And we’re almost not dirty. Or so we think. And we always dream - if God wills - that we’ll lead the nation like a patriarch, fix the country. And do it in “no time.” What other nations have achieved over the course of a century, we do in five years. And we finish it like a dog in a field - a mess, all slapdash, cutting corners. Our heroine, the Madam Minister, wakes up one day, like in a dream, with her underwear still in tatters. While wondering how to make ends meet, the irony of chance throws her into the world of ministerial affairs. And thus begins the same old story about climbing the ladder,” says the director Nedyalko Delchev.
The play is translated by Katya Yordanova, with stage design by Petar Mitev, music by Kaloyan Dimitrov, video by Dimitar Sardzhev, animation by Dimitar Dimitrov, and cinematography by Veselin Hristov.
The cast includes actors: Lilia Maraviglia, Daria Simeonova, Lora Mutisheva, Martin Dimitrov, Milena Zhivkova, Nevena Kaludova, Nikolay Varbanov, Nikolay Dimitrov, Petya Silianova, Rosen Belov, Rumen Troev, Simona Halacheva, Yuliyan Malinov, Yuliyan Rachkov, and Irinei Konstantinov (video appearance).
