From the Classics to the Balkans, Concert
Featuring: Vidin Symphony Orchestra & Mandolin Quartet "Seasons"
Thursday, October 30th, at 7 p.m.
The Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis
Vidin Symphony Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed Quartet “Seasons” – featuring Evdokia Bobotsova (mandolin), Rosen Idealov (clarinet), Milen Dzhurov (classical guitar), and Rosen Balkanski (classical guitar) – will present an exceptional concert that crosses borders and eras.
The program is specially curated to take the audience on a musical journey, paying tribute to one of the most important contemporary composers for guitar and mandolin – Rosen Balkanski. His music captivates with its emotional depth, melodic richness, and expressive power. Among the highlights will be one of his most beautiful works, "Ballad and Dance", presented in a special arrangement for orchestra and soloists, as well as his brilliant orchestration of four miniatures based on colorful Turkish dances.
A delightful surprise for the audience will be the premiere of "Three Greek Dances" by contemporary Greek composer Nikos Harizanis. Written and dedicated especially to Quartet “Seasons,” the piece showcases the musical heritage of three distinct regions of Greece – from the Aegean and Ionian Seas to Northern Greece – each with its own unique character, rhythm, and style.
