From a statement by Elin Pelin, it becomes clear that the novella The Geraks is among his most inspired works. He shares that it is "a creative moment – a true one in my life." The reason for writing it was specific – the writer’s encounter with a peasant who was leading "a small child, dressed and curled up in a torn little coat," looking for some kind of work for the child in Sofia.
