Po Zarezan, Folklore Concert-Performance
Sunday, 1 March at 7 p.m.
House of Culture “Boris Hristov”
*It refers to Zarezan, a traditional Bulgarian celebration of vine pruning and the beginning of the vine-growing season, which is associated with St. Tryphon’s Day,14 February.
“Po Zarezan” is our beautiful tribute
To the Bulgarian root, ancient and alive –
To the hardworking, cheerful, united spirit,
To the love of life, bright as a sunny day.
We will lead you through the golden vine rows, where the farmers rise early, before the winged roosters crow.
They prune the vines – with a prayer for abundance,
For fruit, for plenty, for happiness and luck.
There the shears sing a clear, ringing song,
And sweet red wine swims in the vats.
Mina – a young maiden, hardworking and smiling, clever, nimble, dressed in colorful attire.
Beside her walks Vicho – a cheerful bachelor,
A passionate vine grower, woven of humor.
With a wink and a playful word,
He captivates every diligent maiden.
And here is the gathering – a warm, lively hearth, where songs sound gentle and playful.
The women spin and tell ancient tales,
While the young ones tease with laughter and fiery, bright jokes.
Then comes the grape harvest – a celebration of labor,
Baskets quickly fill, with joy and song on everyone’s lips.
Among the vine rows, hearts flutter,
Love sparks fly like fireflies in the night.
