Revived Heritage
Revived Heritage: A Documentary Exhibition Celebrating 70 Years of the Architectural and Historical Reserve Ancient Plovdiv
Wednesday, April 1 – Monday, April 20
Roman Stadium Square
The documentary exhibition is a visual narrative of the journey and process of reviving Plovdiv’s cultural and historical heritage. All the displayed photographs, sketches, drawings, and other materials are part of the rich collection of the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute. Some of them are over 100 years old and bear the authentic stamps and signatures of architects, engineers, designers, and restoration artists, city planners who shaped the appearance of the Old Town - testaments to vision and responsibility toward Plovdiv’s memory.
The exhibition also tells the story of the restoration of Plovdiv’s and Bulgaria’s landmarks - the Ancient Theatre, the Roman Stadium of Philippopolis - and guides us through the city’s church heritage and architecture, interior furnishings, as well as masterpieces of carpet-weaving art, some of the finest examples of which are displayed in houses managed by the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute.
The exhibition does more than recount history - it reminds us that heritage is a living connection between the past, present, and future. It is an invitation for everyone to rediscover the Old Town not just as a space, but as a spirit that continues to be preserved and developed.
The opening will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Atanas Krastev Square (the Lapidarium), and in case of bad weather — at the Balabanova House.
