Chamber Scene Plovdiv 2026: Doykin & Karparov – Eastern Passage

Formed in 2017, the duo brings together two long-time friends and internationally acclaimed musicians: Asen Doykin (piano) – an established name on the New York jazz scene, and Vladimir Karparov (saxophone) – one of the most distinctive Bulgarian voices in contemporary jazz in Berlin.
Their art is a bold experiment and a refined fusion of two “musical religions,” originating from distant and different geographical backgrounds, yet sharing a similar artistic drive and expressive language. In their compositions, the characteristic rhythms of Bulgarian folklore intertwine in a unique way with the classical jazz idiom. After a series of successful concerts in some of Europe’s most prestigious jazz clubs and inspiring masterclasses at the Hanover University of Music, the two musicians are ready to present their new recording project, where music becomes a meeting point of two universes.
The album “Eastern Passage”, set for release in May 2026 under the Piribimbambei label, will have its premiere for the Plovdiv audience. The concert will feature pieces from the album as well as entirely new original compositions, filled with improvisation and deep emotional expression.
