Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Musical
Wednesday, August 19 at 9 p.m.
Ancient Theatre
Sweeney Todd is a story that London has been singing for decades, and now the Ancient Theatre will hear it on August 19. It is a tale of the barber, his pie-making neighbor, Fleet Street, and the year 1846, delivered through music that lingers in the mind long after the performance. The musical is at once a dark fairytale, a love song, and a grand theatrical celebration.
The production is directed by Petar Odajiev, the same director who turned The Addams Family into one of the most frequently staged musicals in the country. However, his interpretation is not nostalgic. Victorian London here speaks to today’s audience about the time we live in, the choices we make, and what we consume—and what consumes us. This is a stage production that promises a scale rarely seen in Bulgaria.
