What happens if a man, wrongly sentenced and later exonerated, suddenly returns to his divorced wife? What if, having nowhere else to go, he asks to live in the apartment that partly belongs to him, where she now lives with her new husband? What if the new husband shows understanding and says he has no objection? What if the students (because she is a teacher) start mocking her for living with two men in what, in their words, they call a “sandwich system”? What if the two men, unexpectedly becoming friends, annoy her so much that she throws them out to sleep on the sofa together, while she takes the marital bed alone? What if another woman suddenly appears, bringing with her an uncontrollable fit of jealousy? And what if, at that point, none of the four people can any longer tell who they love more?
