Nigel Kennedy – Virtuoso Tour

Ancient Theatre
One of the most distinctive, free-spirited, and unpredictable figures in contemporary music, Nigel Kennedy, returns to the Bulgarian stage with his Virtuoso Tour.
The virtuoso violinist will perform at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv with the Nigel Kennedy Trio—an ensemble that appears classically understated at first glance, yet is transformed by Kennedy’s unmistakable artistic style. Joining him on stage will be Peter Adams on cello and Alec Dankworth on double bass, two musicians renowned for their effortless movement between classical music, jazz, and improvisation.
The program features Kennedy’s original compositions, arrangements of works by contemporary composers, and music inspired by the world of jazz that has long influenced him, with tributes to Krzysztof Komeda, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Django Reinhardt. A special place is also reserved for Johann Sebastian Bach, whom Kennedy regards as a pioneer of improvisational thinking and a constant musical presence throughout his life.
Nigel Kennedy has long been far more than a virtuoso violinist. He is an artist who effortlessly breaks down the boundaries between musical genres while maintaining deep respect for each of them. His music is at once precise and free, classical and rebellious, intimate and spectacular—qualities that become even more compelling in a venue as extraordinary as the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv.
