City Art Gallery - Expositions Tsanko Lavrenov and Mexican Art
The artist Tsanko Lavrenov (1896–1978) is one of the most famous Bulgarian painters, a model of unique talent, high erudition, inexhaustible energy, and incredible creative imagination. His work magnificently illustrates the complex interplay in Bulgarian art between the tendencies to preserve tradition and to embrace modern European thinking, all in the pursuit and desire to create a national style. The exhibition includes the artist’s best works.
On the first floor is the exhibition “Mexican Art” — modern Mexican graphics, crafts, and copies of stone sculptures and ceramics. The exhibits are arranged in honor of the 1300th anniversary of the Bulgarian state, and the gallery was opened in 1981.
