REM – Plovdiv has the pleasure to invite you to a retrospective exhibition called

REGIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM – PLOVDIV, 100 YEARS HISTORY 

Dedicated to the 100 Years Jubilee since the Founding of the Museum 

 

Initiator for the founding of the museum was the Plovdiv Regional Standing Committee (present Municipality of Plovdiv). The beginning of the museum was set on January 22, 1917 when a meeting was held in which the members of the Standing committee, a few teachers and some public figures participated. They were unanimous that at the time Bulgarian material and spiritual culture was changing and fading very fast. That is why the “committee decided “to set the foundations of before a Regional Museum at the Standing Committee. It would collect exhibits from around the region which are of national significance for our history and for the education of our future generations”. The regulation of the museum was approved on July 20 the same year by the Ministry of Interior and National Health, and this is the official date of the museum`s founding. 

The present exhibition tracks the history of the museum since its founding 100 years ago until nowadays. It presents the deeds of significant persons like the secretary and curator Stoyu Shishkov, the director Yordan Popgeorgiev, the mayor Bozhidar Zdravkov and many others who bound their lives with the idea of the establishing and nurturing of the Ethnographic Museum. The history of the house of Arghir Kuyumdzhioglu, which this year turns 170 years, its owners, builders and restorers, will also be presented.

Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv is a time-tested institution with a centennial history and substantial contribution for the preserving, researching and representing the Bulgarian traditions. The museum follows the patriotic ideals of its founders by continuous development and promotion of Bulgarian cultural-historical heritage.

The official opening of the exhibition is on July 4, 2017 at 18:00 h.

The exhibition is on display until August 15, 2017.
