“30 Years in the Light of the Metal”
Marin Nedelev – master coppersmith
Hristo Nedelev – master knife-maker
Pavel Nedelev – master knife-maker
Marin Nedelev (Karlovo) – was a master coppersmith. In 1990, he became a member of the Fellowship of Masters of Folk & Art Crafts, together with his brother Hristo. He produced copper vessels with traditional forms – sahans, tases, trays, pots, cans, goblets, etc., but also beautiful beer mugs, unknown in shape to our lands. The small dents left by the copper hammer on the vessel each refract and reflect the light in a peculiar way, and this very game of light makes his products alive and shining.
Hristo Nеdelev – master knife-maker, member of the Fellowship of Masters of Folk & Art Crafts since 1990. In 2010 wins first prize at the International Fair of Traditional Crafts – Etar with a duplicate of a 200-year old knife “groshak”. He is the best master of the classic kania knife. He produces by himself the steel alloy for his knives, therefore they are sturdy and have preserved the entire glamour of the white metal. He produces all kinds of knives, but his favourite are the bachelor knives – “thin, sharp and fast”. Hristo is teacher of his nephew Pavel, who is the second knife maker in the family.
Pavel Nedelev – he is a master knife-maker and a member of the Fellowship of Masters of Folk & Art Crafts since 2000. He produces different kinds of knives – European, traditional, hunting, etc., but his real passion is engraving and inlay which make knives unique. Together with his uncle Hristo, Pavel participates in numerous exhibitions and pleiners.
Nedelevi are a unique family not only because of their master skills in difficult crafts such as knife-making and coppersmith, but also because of the fact that they follow an old tradition since the Revival Period – they preserve and continue the craft in the family.
The knives can fascinate you not only with their strength, but also with their decoration, since every knife is different and adorned with the hands of the master craftsman. It is the same with the copper vessels. More than 200-year traditions are preserved in their production. Some of their production found place at the homes of famous persons from Bulgaria and abroad, since there is no present worthier than an item made with the heart and soul, in which you can recognize the beauty and traditions with which you have grown.
The exhibition will be on display in REM – Plovdiv until September 30th, 2017.
You are welcome!
