The Department of Culture, Archeology and Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Plovdiv, Plovdiv State Opera and the Italian Cultural Institute are pleased to invite you to the opening of the photo exhibition "Orpheus" on July 10 at 18:00 at the Roman Stadium - Plovdiv.

The exhibition contains 24 photographs from the performance "Orpheus and Eurydice" of Gluck by the genius director, artist and choreographer Stefano Poda. The event was one of the highlights of the program of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019, presented during the Opera Open festival.

Alexander Bogdan Thompson's photographs contain the emotions of the artists and the unprecedented scale and originality of the scenography, inspired by the rich cultural heritage of the Thracians and the lands of Orpheus, created especially for the Ancient Theater.

The photos will be available for free viewing by Plovdiv residents and guests of the city until July 27. The exhibition is an initiative of the Italian Cultural Institute and was first presented in Sofia in June, in Plovdiv it is organized with the assistance of the Department of Culture, Archeology and Cultural Heritage and under the patronage of Deputy Mayor - Plamen Panov.

ALEXANDER BOGDAN THOMPSON is not defined as a photographer, but as an author of photographs. His tool is the camera, and the photo as a work is the mediator - it is both a carrier of the author's feeling and a generator of emotions that he seeks to unlock in the viewer.

Alexander came to stage photography as his means of creative sharing after working on the stage himself - as a singer and assistant director at the Opera in Essen, Germany. His perception of the world is formed as a result of extensive professional experience in many fields and his growth between different cultures.

His work on projects on the stages of the State Opera - Plovdiv, Sofia Opera and Ballet, State Opera - Ruse, Drama Theater - Plovdiv, the coverage of projects from the program of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019, a number of concerts and performances with popular Bulgarian and foreign performers.
