European Night of Literature in Plovdiv

Plovdiv joins with 10 readers' nests in the 10th Night of Literature in Bulgaria

Contemporary European literature in new Bulgarian translations will be presented again this year at the jubilee 10th Night of Literature. The literary happening will be on May 12, 2021 and it will include 14 Bulgarian cities - Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa, Dobrich, Lovech, Montana, Pernik, Plovdiv, Ruse, Silistra, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Shumen.

The project was initiated and organized by the Czech Centers, together with the European Association of National Cultural Institutes EUNIC since 2006 and gradually includes cities from different countries. Bulgaria became part of the International Night of Literature in 2012, thanks to the Czech Center in Sofia.

The main organizers of the event in Bulgaria are the embassies and cultural institutes of European countries (EUNIC Bulgaria and others), Sofia Municipality, the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, the Children's Books Foundation.

In the cities, the organizers and coordinators of the Night of Literature are the municipalities in partnership with libraries, community centers, youth organizations and others.

Selected excerpts from the European literary scene will reveal the magic of large and small literatures. The start is at 18:00 and one excerpt will be repeated in a specific place until 21:30. Thus, the audience will travel around the city and will be able to visit different places for reading.

The readings will start every half hour with a duration of about 15 minutes, so that there is time to move. Students will have the opportunity to choose from excerpts from books translated from German, French, Danish, Italian, Montenegrin, Polish, English, Irish, Portuguese, Macedonian, Czech, Slovenian, Hungarian, Swedish, French, Norwegian.

The excerpts from the books were selected by the main organizers of the Night of Literature 2021: Czech Center, Sofia Municipality, Austrian Embassy, ​​Embassy of Belgium, British Council, Goethe-Institut, Danish Embassy, ​​Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Embassy of Ireland, Institute " Cervantes ”, Italian Cultural Institute, Polish Institute, Camois Institute, Cultural Information Center of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, Hungarian Cultural Institute, French Institute in Bulgaria, Embassy of the Swiss Confederation, Embassy of Sweden books ”.
