"Children's Month in the Museums of Plovdiv" starts again! # TOGETHER Plovdiv cultural institutes open doors for the kids and their curious parents.

The weekends in the four Plovdiv museums, the City Gallery of Fine Arts and the National Library "Ivan Vazov" throughout June will be dedicated to children.

The initiative, which aims to show the kids and their parents, the richness of the exhibitions of the first Bulgarian city - European Capital of Culture in 2019 already has its natural continuation after the huge interest in February.

The idea of ​​the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archeology and Tourism of Municipality of Plovdiv Mr. Plamen Panov is supported by the directors of cultural institutions, as each of them has prepared surprises for the children in the coming weekends.

The theme of the initiatove in June is "PLOVDIV: THE RIVER AND THE HILLS". In addition to visiting the exhibitions, children will be able to participate in various games and activities, create, and receive gifts.

Plovdiv cultural institutions have created places for the youngest residents of the city for entertainment, creativity, games and educational lectures, presented in a fascinating way.

Regional History Museum - Plovdiv 

Regional History Museum - Plovdiv announces another "Month of the weekends for children in the museums of Plovdiv" with two sites - exhibition "Union of Bulgaria" on 1 Saedinenie Square and exhibition "Bulgarian Revival" on 1 Tsanko Lavrenov Street in Ancient Plovdiv, which will receive visitors every weekend until the end of June from 9.00 h. to 17:30 h.

Kids up to 7 years old visit our sites free of charge, students are charged with a ticket of BGN 1.00, the entrance for grandparents and their grandchildren is charged with one family ticket of BGN 3.00, and parents with children will be able to see our exhibitions with one family ticket of BGN 5.00.

Each child will receive a card of the respective site and a photo "Memory of Plovdiv" of a building that was emblematic of the city in the past. Each family will receive a workbook and a family guide, specially designed for independent viewing of the exhibitions, and in the exhibition "Bulgarian Revival" children have the opportunity to request a set of maps with images of exhibits that must be found among other cultural values. Each purchased family ticket comes together with another gift of your choice - the publication "History of the Municipality of Plovdiv (1878-1989)" or "Guide to the streets and squares in Plovdiv".

Museum specialists have developed special initiatives dedicated to the theme "Plovdiv: the river and the hills". Presentations of multimedia devices and photographs on paper will tell the story of the river and the hills, which starts from the legends, passes through the old names, predetermines the settlement and development of the ancient city and continues to the present times. Special educational initiatives will explain to children the facts about the emblematic natural phenomena.

Regional History Museum - Plovdiv invites children to capture or record the colors, shapes and sounds of the river and hills, as well as to describe them or how they imagine their future! Participants can send their photographs, videos, sound files and essays together with their name and age to e-mail: [email protected], and their works will be presented during the European Night of Museums on July 3.

The visits to the Regional Historical Museum - Plovdiv will be carried out in compliance with the current anti-epidemic safety measures according to the orders of the Minister of Health.

Regional Ethnographic Museum (REM)

In June, during the "Children's Month in the Museums of Plovdiv" the team of REM - Plovdiv has prepared a variety of interesting educational activities on "Plovdiv - the river and the hills."

Children visiting the Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv will get acquainted with curious details related to life along the Maritsa River and the hills, while filling out interesting worksheets, thematic crosswords and puzzles - "Water is life" and "Hills - preserved sign of Plovdiv".

All children who visit us will learn something new about the millennial city and will receive a gift.

Admission will be free for children up to 7 years old.

City Gallery of Fine Arts 

In four of the expositions of the Gallery there will be tripods on which will be placed original paintings by famous Bulgarian artists, which depict the Plovdiv hills and the Maritsa River. The children who will visit the exhibitions will have the opportunity to draw their own pictures from the original. They will draw with colored pencils on cardboard or on tripods with markers or chalks in the Permanent Exhibition Encho Pironkov, Permanent Exhibition "Georgi Bozhilov-Slona", Permanent Exhibition "Tsanko Lavrenov" and Permanent Exhibition "Icons". Finally, they will receive an award from the Gallery. Children need to have a ticket purchased from their parents. The ticket costs BGN 4. The seals will again be available in the following buildings of the Gallery, located in the Old Town:

Regional Natural History Museum 

The Regional Natural History Museum offers free admission for children up to 7 years old on weekends (for the Exposition), as well as special gifts. Throughout the month, elements of the Maritza River Museum's mobile exhibition "River of Biodiversity" will be on display.

From 05.06.2021 (Saturday) visitors to the Regional Natural History Museum - Plovdiv will have the opportunity to watch the latest planetary show - "Europe's Cosmic Quest". The film is based on a project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and will present the missions of the ESA Starfleet to the exciting mysteries of space. On the day of the premiere, an exhibition of astronomical posters and 6 stands with interactive thematic outdoor scientific activities will be organized in Dondukov Garden. The educational activities are free and are aimed at enthusiasts in the field of astronomy, families with children, pupils and students. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in interesting workshops related to the most iconic space missions of the ESA. They will also witness a spectacular comet demonstration made of dry ice. The events have been developed and will be realized by leading astrophysicists and pedagogues with the assistance of specialists from the museum team.

"Build a spaceship!"
Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to build from recycled materials (paper boxes, caps, etc.) various space carriers from the ESA Starfleet, learning more about the mission of each of them.

"Space and pixels"
Those wishing to take part in this activity will make beautiful pixelated models, using various techniques in art - such as that of the Australian aborigines and pointillism.

"Comet Recipe"
With this impressive scientific demonstration we will "cook" the comet on spot, revealing the organic matter from which it is made! And in the discussion we will give answers to many of the questions that excited the supporters of these "tailed space wanderers".

"My city from space"
In this activity, images from the satellites of the space mission "Sentinel 2" (under the program "Copernicus") will be used. Through them, participants will explore their city from space, discovering various landmarks and natural sites and comparing changes in their appearance in spring, summer and autumn.

"Climate from Earth and Space"
Stand for young researchers of cosmic images of the Earth's atmosphere during different seasons and different meteorological phenomena.

“GOCE Mission”
Workshop to get acquainted with the characteristics of the geoid (the true shape of the Earth) by studying 3D printed models, coloring earth maps transformed into a geoid and recreating the geoid shape of the Earth from plasticine.

Children and their parents can take part in the fun game "Visit and Discover". The game involves coloring a map and searching for exhibits related to the RIVER.
19.06. - 20.06.2021 (Saturday and Sunday)
In the next weekend in the game "Visit and discover", children will look for exhibits discovered during the years of PLOVDIV HILLS during archeological excavations.
