HOURS BEFORE THE START OF THE FESTIVAL, OPERA PLOVDIV OPENED THE EXHIBITION "OPERA OPEN: THE MEMORY OF THE FESTIVAL" AT THE ROMAN STADIUM

The wheel of fortune turns tonight (June 4, 2021) on the top of Bunardzhika and takes us back 55 years, when on the same date and at the same place the first open-air opera took place in Plovdiv.

Tonight, the top of Bunardzhika hosts the power and energy of Carl Orff's "CARMINA BURANA" performed by over 150 artists on stage at 9 p.m.

A few hours earlier, OPERA PLOVDIV opened the EXHIBITION "OPERA OPEN: THE MEMORY OF THE FESTIVAL" at the Roman Stadium - a  accompanying event to the official opening of the festival.

The exhibition contains 23 photographs by Alexander Bogdan Thompson from iconic performances of the Ancient Theater in recent years and will delight Plovdiv residents and guests of the city until August 31.

Alexander Bogdan Thompson is this year's winner of the Plovdiv Award for contribution to the development of the cultural life of Plovdiv for 2020 in the section "Audio-visual arts and photography".

The opening was attended by the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archeology and Tourism of Municipality of Plovdiv - Mr. Plamen Panov, Dian Chobanov - Music Director of Opera Plovdiv and Luciano Di Martino - Artistic Director of Opera Plovdiv.

The exhibition is realized in partnership with the Department of Culture, Archeology and Cultural Heritage.
