One of the most famous French composers and guitar professors of our time to perform in Plovdiv

"Spanish Nights" is the name of a fiery guitar concert by Arnaud Dumond with the participation of Elena San Román (flamenco guitar) and Guitar Ensemble Academiкa – Plovdiv, which we will see on September 17 at 19.00 h at House of Culture "Boris Hristov".   

Arnaud Dumond is one of the most renowned French composers and guitar professors of our time, rightly described as "one of the brightest and most inspired artists in France today".  

He completed his graduate studies in classical guitar at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris under the direction of Alberto Ponce. He has studied under the masters of the guitar Narciso Yepes, Emilio Pujol, John Williams and Joseph Urshalmi. At the personal invitation of the great Nadia Boulanger, he taught at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau.

Arnaud Dumond is an honorary professor of émérite hors classe in guitar at Paris conservatories, at the ENM of Evreux, at the Catholic Institute of Paris, at the CRD of Créteil. As an educator, he has created four textbooks on guitar.

Dumond is the author of over 100 classical works for solo guitar, duo and ensemble, but he also works for choir, philharmonic orchestra, piano and flute. His sacred works (masses, requiems, madrigals) have been performed in L'église de la Madeleine in Paris, and in the cathedrals of Reims, Rouen, Évreux and Laon.

He has released over 16 of his own CDs with chamber music, concerts, recitals, electro-acoustic music, and flamenco guitar duos. Only for classical solo guitar he has created 24 preludes, 36 etudes, 7 sonatas and 6 concerts.

As a performer he has been awarded the Grand Prize of Radio France International, the Gaudeamus Competition, the Yamaha Competition in Tokyo, and as a composer – the first prize of the Guitar Foundation of America and the Menuhin Foundation. He is an honorary member of the Rachmaninoff Conservatory in Moscow. He has organized master classes in over 50 countries, including USA, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, Italy, England. He is the author of chronicles in Le Monde, Libération, La lettre du Musicien, France - Musique. He has composed the music for films of Carlos Saura, Guy Kerner, Jean-Louis Bertucelli.

He has performed in over 65 countries, coming to Bulgaria for the first time at the invitation and with the assistance of the Association for Cultural Exchange – Art Gallery Constantin .

Elena San Román was born in France to Spanish parents. She is one of the few women masters of flamenco guitar in the world. She specialized in classical guitar in Normandy with Prof. Arnaud Dumond, who encouraged her talent and guided her to her native flamenco music. Elena received a scholarship from the renowned Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville and studied with great guitar masters such as Rebollar, Cortes, Barragán. She is founder of the group Chicas de Ripas, combining dance, percussion and vocals. Elena San Román currently lives between Seville and Paris. 

Guitar ensemble "Academika" at AMTII Plovdiv was established in 1997 with the participation of students from the classes of Stella Dinkova and Milena Valcheva, specialising in Music Pedagogy. The name of the ensemble was first used in 2000 on initiative of its student members. In 2006 the ensmble also included students from the specialties "Performing Arts – Classical Guitar" and "Performing Arts – Pop and Jazz". Artistic director of the ensemble since its founding until today is Stella Miteva-Dinkova - Assoc. Prof. Dr. at AMTII Plovdiv. The usual number of participating students is from 9 to 13.

During its more than twenty years of artistic activity, the ensemble has performed in various cities in Bulgaria at national and international forums and participated in international festivals in Serbia and Greece. The repertoire of "Academica" is diverse. Contemporary works by Bulgarian authors dedicated to the ensemble, world classics arranged for the ensemble, contemporary plays premiered in Bulgaria and more.

The ensemble has participated in master classes of David Grimes (1997), Per Paalsson and Jesper Sivebaek (2003), Georgi Vasilev (2010), Éric Franceries and Kostas Tosidis (2016).

Ensemble "Academiнa" is the winner of 7 first prizes from:
- International competition within the 3rd Summer Guitar Academy "Arion" in Molyvos (Greece, 2014);
- International Naissus Competition in Nis (Serbia, 2014);
- International competition "Acad. M. Goleminov" in Kyustendil (2017, 2012, 2009, 2006);
- International competition Gotse Delchev (1999).

Hi! If by the date of the concert "Spanish Nights" there is no change in the sanitary regulations of the Ministry of Health for holding a cultural event indoors, spectators will be allowed without a test and vaccination, ONLY WEARING A MASK!
30% attendance is provided, and spectators are seated in two chairs.

The return of tickets and the return of the amount in case of non-presentation of a medical certificate will be possible up to 2 hours before the start of the concert at all Eventim box offices in the country.
