"Old Town Festival" celebrates its 10th anniversary

When Plovdiv pulsates with the fire of Autumn and the flame, which gives energy to thousands of people who came to experience the magic of the oldest living city in Europe and the first Bulgarian European Capital of Culture - it means it's time to start the traditional "Old Town Festival”.

From the 13th to the 19th of September 2021 there will be days in which past and present will harmonize under the motto of this year's edition "Code Memory".

The festval have a long story. In the beginning the duration was one day, later it grew into a holiday week, and this year the 10th anniversary edition will be realized. The concept of the festval is related to the promotion of the spiritual and historical heritage on the territory of Old Plovdiv - houses, museums, customs and traditions. With the help of artists, musicians, painters, scientists and other partners, the team of Municipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv" annually invites the citizens and guests of Plovdiv to a memorable "walk" on the Three Hills of time and space.

In the forthcoming edition of "Old Town Festival" 2021 you will find interesting documentary exhibitions, from which you will learn new facts about the hills of Plovdiv, the life and work of Georgi Danchov - Zografina and the "magician in textiles" Prof. Marin Varbanov. Georgi Toshev will present the book "Diaries & Weekdays" and the new documentary about the beloved actress Tatiana Lolova. You will meet the proud descendant of Benkovski Radina Rosenova, who will present the exhibition "Ancestry". You will experience the influential art of the young artists Kalina Ilieva and Petar Avramov - paintings and original lamps entitled "Light and Spots". You will have the chance to find out how style is embodied with the unique designer hats of Yulia Raichevska. The memory of Prof. Nikolay Stoykov will be honored with a concert matinee, and the great masters in the genre Nevilyan Gemizhev, Ventsislav Blagoev, Petar Momchev, Alexander Borisov and Alexander Kumanov will "tell" you about Dixieland and the city. For the second year in a row, a student rock concert will be presented in front of the Small Basilica. Consecutive partnership with the information center "Europe Direct Plovdiv" will offer open space discussion on current topics.

In these 7 days there will be events for teenagers, realized in partnership with experts from the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage. The aim is to inspire young people to knowledge and creativity. The European Mobility Week will be marked with a walking tour in the footsteps of the artists in the Old Town. For the first time you will witness and you can participate in a bagpipe creation workshop with master Iliya Uchikov. For IV-consecutive year, together with Municipal Enterprise "Joyful rites" for many wedding couples will be created the romantic "Sea of Love in the Old Town."

The official opening of the forum is on September 13 at 20:30 h. at the Ancient Theater with the concert "Plovdiv in my heart " - celebration of the 75th anniversary and 50 years on stage of the favorite of generations of Bulgarians and "Honorary Citizen of Plovdiv" Hristo Kidikov. His friends - Veselin Marinov, Kristina Dimitrova, Mariana Popova, Mimi Ivanova, Razvigor Popov, Orlin Goranov, Rositsa Kirilova, Toni Dimitrova, Municipal Brass Band - Lovech, ERA Ballet, ERA Sports Club and Folklore Ensemble "Trakia" will also take part in the concert. The host will be Dragomir Draganov.

The concert is with free entry but in order to create the necessary arrangements for compliance with anti-epidemic measures, the entry will be with invitations, indicating seating of each spectator at 50% capacity of the venue. You can get the free tickets at the Ticket Center in front of the Municipality of Plovdiv.

"Old Town Festival" is implemented with the financial support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the Cultural Calendar of the city for 2021.
