'The madman said in his heart, "There is no God." Men have become corrupt, and have committed heinous crimes; there is no one to do good.'
'... Man is the only grinning mortal on this earth, but when he is free - he prays that his days will be endless, and when he is in the cell - it is nothing but a blink.
I saw that in that silence. The two most important things in the world. Freedom and Love. They were the only reason to postpone the end. Only for them this agony - Life! - was worth it...'
Veno / from The Bell
The protagonist in both the novel and the play is Veno. This is the confession of a murderer who felt catharsis through the Faith. To save the Bell - a symbol of faith, the protagonist is ready to defend it at the cost of his life.
Vasil the priest from The Bell:
'... This is a test, Veno! He is sending it to us. He is testing our people. If this sailboat sinks - the church! and our people are disappearing. The antichrists know this, so they always aim there in the heart.'
Veno's only childhood love is the Roma Leila. Faithful as a samurai to his master, he remains faithful to Love until the end ... and even after that ...
The music of the Karandila Orchestra will sound like an expression of his soul.
'How I desperately want to go through the Bell of Nedyalko Slavov or rather it to go through me and stay in me forever."
