FOOD DESIGN XL/ HONEY & BUNNY
Food Design XL is a documentary by Sonja Stummerer and Martin Hablesreiter, also known as Honey & Bunny. The film explores familiar smells, forms, consistencies and manufacturing techniques to reveal why good-looking food exercises such an influence on us. Martin and Sonja will also give a talk on the subject during ONE DESIGN WEEK 2014.
Food Design XL will take us anywhere from top restaurants to exotic markets. The point it makes is that foodstuffs have all reasons to be considered designer products. And that the proper way of cutting and serving a potato is just as important and adorable as the cut of an Armani suit or the design of Philippe Starck's citrus squeezer for Alessi.
Food is the most important consumer good in contemporary society, claim Sonja and Martin. And it's definitely not correct to think that the US president's wife just cooks, while he tackles the “important politics”. Food is more important than politics, they are cheeky enough to conclude.
Honey & Bunny are an interdisciplinary Austrian design atelier. For the last ten years they have been engrossed with food design. Their explorations and experiments in the field so far have resulted in two books - Food Design (2005) and Food Design XL (2010), the film we are about to see in Plovdiv, and a series of exhibitions and performances, including a show at Milan's Salone del Mobile 2012.
